Reports Report 391g (Event 391-2017)

Observer
Name Terrence W
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks The flash was short, but I was lucky enough to be looking directly at it when it happened. In case the measurements I gave were wrong, hold out your arm in front of you and with your index finger and thumb, measure about an inch and a half (3.75cm). The flash was almost all at once, but the streak was headed towards the horizon. It was very similar, if not identical, to the brightness of burning a strip of magnesium (2Mg + O2 -> 2MgO). After it happened, I had a blurry shape of the streak in my eyes for about 5 minutes. Almost like looking directly at welding without eye protection. My first thought was a fireball, considering magnesium and phosphorus are abundant in meteors (?) and they emit very bright light when burned.
