Reports Report 3509a (Event 3509-2017)

Observer
Name Michael T
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks I was driving North on I91 and saw what looked like a typical meteor, followed by what I can only describe as a bright fireball, fly about 20 feet above my vehicle, all in a fraction of a second. I would guess that it was baseball sized based on how close it was to my vehicle. I looked in my rear-view mirror and didn’t see it, but at how fast it was traveling, I don’t think I could have been quick enough, but it was bright enough to illuminate my dashboard. My girlfriend, who was in the passenger seat was trying to sleep and based on my reaction started asking what had just happened, which was obviously very difficult to describe without sounding crazy. I was not under the influence of anything, I was not falling asleep at the wheel, I’ve literally just never experienced anything like this so thought I’d report it. We had music playing at a decent volume, so I heard nothing. If I had to guess, I would say it was traveling at about a 35 degree angle and wouldn’t have been airborne another hundred feet or so, probably no more than 50 feet from the side of the highway. Had it been daytime and in an area I knew, I would have turned around to investigate, or went back today if it was closer to home, hopefully find it.
