As the fire ball passed in front of my wife and myself it broke into two pieces. The trailing piece went dark first. The leading piece broke into multiple pieces with smaller pieces flaring out as the remainder of the original moved in a straight line. All of the parts of the leading piece went dark at almost the same time. The break up lasted about 2 seconds.
