Reports Report 3186q (Event 3186-2018)

Observer
Name Joe C
Experience Level 2/5
Remarks Absolutely remarkable sight. I would say nothing like I’ve ever seen, but, I have witnessed one green meteor in the past: several years ago and most likely from the perseids. I couldn’t believe that no one else reported this, so that’s the only reason I am. I live just north of Lexington, so I wonder if Washington and Lee University had any cameras pointing up.. should have been easily visible to anyone traveling south on I-81 (I.e. trucker dash cams/Vdot traffic cams). The aprox. location data I gave should be pretty spot on.

Terminal flash
Observation Yes
Remarks Again, it crescendoed into an extremely bright green flash. It was just to the right of the moon, which was full, or slightly waxing gibbous at the time. Above Mars, which was the only visible heavenly body within an approx. 40 degree circumference of the moon, which should say something about the intensity of the meteor. I am sure that if it were a new moon, the meteor would have illuminated the whole landscape around me. Quite incredible, it left me speechless.
