Reports Report 588f (Event 588-2012)

Observer
Name Michele
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks My room # at The resort at Squaw Creek, was 654. The room itself faced west, but it had a large bay window on the west side of the room which allowed me to look south and north as well. I never would have seen the fireball had I not had the ability to be standing at the south facing bay window. Of everything I have read, I have not seen anyone else describe what I saw nor at the time I saw it, nor in the location I saw it, so I thought I should report it to you in hopes of this information to be of some help.

Remarks There was a 5-10 minute delay after seeing the fireball, then a loud sonic boom was heard and felt. I think the delay was closer to 5-7 min. than 10 min. afterward. All the papers say the boom was around 8am, but it was closer to between 7:35am to 7:45am.

Remarks I\'m not sure what those two terms mean. The fireball came into my view while standing at the window of my room at The Resort at Squaw Creek. I was standing there taking pictures, when suddenly this brightly lit and colorful fireball was moving across the sky just above the ridge of the mountain. I had never seen anything like it in my life and I could hardly believe my eyes. I stood there in awe and amazement. It seemed to be no higher than a man-made firework would be. Very close to earth. The main fireball was mostly yellow on the outside of the ball, but the center front of it was white and bright blue. The tail of fire was yellow and pink. I thought I saw small sparks of green as well. Very colorful overall. It was moving in a level and horizontal direction south to southwest. It only lasted maybe 3-5 seconds and suddenly disappeared. It did not drop out of view. It\'s as if it evaporated. I stayed at the window and continued to watch for anything more, but nothing visible came. Maybe 5-10 minutes after I saw the meteor, I heard the loud sonic boom that others reported. It was maybe 7:40 or no later than 7:45am when I heard the boom. I looked at the clock after I saw the meteor and it was 7:30am.
