Reports Report 930g (Event 930-2012)

Observer
Name Matthew
Experience Level 2/5
Remarks It was 12:45 am (friday night saturday morning)My wife and I were both seated and not looking into the sky at the time (we were, a minute or 2 previously staring into the sky) when we both saw a bright white light, light up the sky which drew our attention up to the sky. We got to see the final second or so of this thing (we now understand is probably a meteor). We both recognized it as green, but may have had a little blue and a little white in it as well. It streaked perfectly horizontal across the sky. It seemed to have 2 lines of color, with no color directly behind the object (just night sky). It made me think of the shape of the threading end of a needle. If I held my pinky finger at arms length, the line of light was close to that wide. It left a smoke trail behind as it disapeared, which made me immediately think I witnessed a rocket in the sky. Neither one of us had ever witnessed anything like this before and were both flabbergasted. We had no phone or internet access at the time or we would have looked into it immediately, thats why I am reporting this a couple days later. I\'m still kicking myself for not seeing the first second or so of this event, which I believe was brighter than the last second or so that we saw because it lit up the sky so bright. Also this was 2 days after the 4th of july, and It was definitely not a firework. We saw zero fireworks from our camground, the entire week of the 4th of july meaning noone was shooting off fireworks, plus there was no sound. I\'m wondering if the meteor we saw was significant or unusual in size or color??
