Reports Report 548b (Event 548-2013)

Observer
Name Erika B
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks Because we were not looking in the direction of the flash/ explosion until it had become very bright, it is hard to say what shape or size it was beforehand. I have never flinched and jerked in response to ordinary meteors we see as "shooting stars" or part of a meteor shower. When I saw what I saw tonight (last night), my heart rate jumped and I felt scared. I looked toward the strip (Vegas Strip) waiting for some kind of impact. After a minute or so I realized the world was not over, but because we live in the brightest city, and because we were focused on a bright screen, the object must have been extremely bright even before the ultimate flash to have drawn our attention away from the screen. I am very eager to see if anyone else reports it, or if they will just dismiss it.

Remarks The flash was all I was able to see. I did not see it fly across the sky. I saw a bright light glowing in the sky from the corner of my eye, and as I turned to see what it was, it grew very bright, similar to a camera flash. Then it was completely gone. It wasn't shaped like a shooting star with a tail that you would see toward the horizon. It was as if it was coming down directly toward us and then it flashed bright, then disappeared. With regard to sound, we were watching a video on my cell phone in the car, so the volume would have most likely drowned out any sound. This light was so bright and large that it took our attention away from the bright video screen we were watching in the car.
