Reports Report 623b (Event 623-2024)

Observer
Name Marvin G
Experience Level 1/5
Remarks I did try to listen for a sound of a boom, I waited for a fair amount of time. Good chance I could not hear it since I was facing SW and Dodge street is in that direction. This main drag of Omaha provides a near constant white noise. Also 156th street is right behind my house and traffic was also going down that. My profession is a Civil designer (I do mostly site layout not so much public infrastructure) so I have a good eye for angles and a good sense of the position of objects in relation to one another.

Persistent train
Observation Yes
Duration 1.5s
Length 14°
Remarks Train of small dots / streaks similar to some fireworks. There was one larger piece that came off the main fireball that came off of it. The main fireball dimmed a little when this happened.
Terminal flash
Observation Yes
Remarks Not exactly. For the short time I saw it, the fireball was bright, dimmed when a smaller piece came off of it, then brightened up just a little before dimming out quickly (last 1/5th of a second maybe).
Fragmentation
Observation Yes
Remarks At about 2/3rd its way through its' flight a small piece came off the fireball. It was about 1/4th the brightness maybe. It came off of the main fireball and diverged at a 25° angle counter clockwise off the main fireballs path (down toward the ground).
