We were traveling in an auto slowly, having just pulled out of a parking lot when this was observed. Because we were in a car we probably would not have heard any noise if there was any. We are not certain that this was a fireball due to the lack of visible forward motion

Remarks
The train appeared to shoot off of the fireball the same bright white color with a slight arc to it and disappeared all within perhaps 1/2 second
Terminal flash
Observation
Yes
Remarks
The entire sequence of what I and my wife saw occurred within a second or less. We are not certain that we saw all of it. Our first thought was that it looked like an object (airplane) had exploded in the sky. The explosion (terminal flash) drew our attention and we then saw the fragmentation, ( what looked to us like a part of the exploding object shooting off from the initial flash)
Fragmentation
Observation
Yes
Remarks
It followed immediately upon our sighting the initial terminal flash. The curious aspect we do not understand was that there was not the typical streak indicating forward motion but rather that the terminal flash appeared to be stationary and that the fragmentation was shooting off from this stationary fireball. There was a moderately bright star quite near to the occurrence for reference that gave this impression.
