I saw the object while driving home from work. It appeared suddenly and traveled in a downward arc. It lasted several seconds and then was gone. Having never seen anything like it before, my first thought was a meteor but then I thought it might be a plane on fire falling from the sky. I expected to hear a crash but heard nothing.
