While walking along the shore of the Great Salt Lake, out of the corner of my eye I saw a splash of blue and white light. It didn't seem to cover a very large area and I wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't seen it in my peripheral vision. From where I was standing the splash seemed to be heading at a roughly 45 degree angle towards the Kaysville, Layton area. One interesting thing I noticed was the sound that occurred after seeing the splash in the sky. This sound is probably the reason I call it a splash. The sound was not very loud but it was prominent. I could definitely tell the sound came from the lights in the sky. It sounded like throwing a small handful of water on a hot skillet. Another interesting thing was that I recognized this sound from the night before. I was, again, out on the Great Salt Lake to shoot pictures of the setting moon. I was far away from the highway where it's relatively quiet. While walking back to the car (very late, roughly between 1 and 3 a.m.) I heard that same sound maybe three or four times. Again, it's not a very loud sound but in the silence of where I was at it was a very prominent sound. Enough so that I was slightly startled by it each time it happened. I realize now that it could have been due to other meteor's entering the atmosphere that night, as well.
