Reports Report 595a (Event 595-2007)

Remarks This was one of the most amazing fireballs I've ever seen. I was standing in the city centre of Cape Town in bright lights, so I couldn't see more than a couple of stars, but this fireball was very bright. It had a perceived diameter of perhaps 1 or 2 degrees - roughly the size of the full moon - and it moved quite slowly southwards at a slight angle. It was out to sea to the west of the city. My viewing angle was constrained by a high building, the western end of Table Mountain and the top of Lion's Head, and I saw it through the gap between the two mountain tops over Kloof Nek. It vanished behind the end of Table Mountain. It was gold with a bright electric blue corona and had a small, blunt tail of blue, and its own light showed a train of thin smoke behind it which faded into darkness as the fireball moved away. The problem is that I've only found this site now and I can't remember the exact date and time details, so I've had to guess them. The strange thing is that I've been watching the media and the internet ever since and have never seen or heard of another report of the same event, yet it was in the middle of summer and I'm certain other people must have seen it. I've seen no other reports of fireballs over Cape Town in the last ten or fifteen years.
