Remarks |
It was fairly long - 1-2 seconds, seemed very bright as it started high above and immediately went behind a large cedar tree, but I could see it intermittently on its way down, even through the full crown of the tree. I wished I was 30 feet farther on the road, as it was clearly the brightest, and closest meteor I have ever seen. I have to assume it was a meteor, a fireball unlike any I had ever seen, with no associated noise, no bang. I was unable to determine if it had a tail due to the tree, but I was seeing lots of white behind the limbs when in an open area. I am less sure of what I saw because of the full crown cedar tree. But it was bright enough to see white light on its way down behind the tree to about 30 degrees above the horizon when it no longer appeared. It seemed slow in its descent compared to most meteors I've seen. Slow and bright starting at nearly overhead, about 70 degrees down to estimated 30 degrees, due north roughly, from my position on the road, Lavene Lane, MiWuk Village, Ca. 95346 @ about 7 PM wednesday 11/9/2016. |
