Reports Report 377h (Event 377-2011)

Observer
Name Rebecca M
Experience Level 2/5
Remarks I\'m not sure I guessed the angle of the fireball\'s trajectory quite right on your website, although I did my best. There were a lot of trees and buildings blocking my horizon, and I saw the fireball not too far above them, and I guessed that to be halfway up. And the fireball almost looked to be traveling in a horizontal line, but also slightly downward in its trajectory because I remember hoping that it would burn out before it disappeared below my horizon, and it did, just in time. I was surprised at how long it lasted. Normally, they\'re so fast that I can\'t be sure of what I saw unless I happen to be staring right at that part of the sky when the meteor appears. This time when I caught the flash of moving light to my left, I had time to turn, stop, and track it all the way across the sky as it moved from south to north.

Remarks I think it may have left a faint white train, but it\'s hard to remember how. If it did, it was very faint, and it faded very quickly, or else it was obscured by the light pollution above Nashville. I was so amazed by the very bright meteor/fireball at the time that I didn\'t think to look for one as I watched it streak across the sky.
Terminal flash
Observation No
Remarks Sorry, there was no flash or fragmentation. I\'ve seen flashes/explosions before, but not this time. The meteor blinked out before it disappeared just above the horizon of trees and buildings. Of course, it was very dark, so maybe I only thought I saw it go dark when really it disappeared below something that I could not see and then maybe it flashed or fragmented, but I really think I saw the bright light distinguish above my visual horizon.
