This fireball crossed the flight path of two aircraft. I had first thought it was another airplane, but it was much larger and covered the lights of the airplanes.

Remarks
Looked like smoke. Not quite like a comtrail. There were also chunks coming off the fireball that were larger than stars but only a fraction of the size of the fireball, itself. They had smokey trains too.

Remarks
There was one large chunk that came off and several smaller pieces. It seemed to be breaking apart like it was exploding from the rear.
