Remarks The Frankfort High School Band had gone to Versailles for the football game between our two schools. We were getting organized in the parking lot to march into the field. Suddenly I looked up and saw a fireball in the sky. It was moving approximate south-to-north and passed almost overhead, but a bit to our east. We could see flame trailing from its surface. It seems like it took a very long time, but probably it didn't, to continue on to the north and go out of our sight. It was an amazing sight. I watched the newspaper for several days thereafter to see a report on what we had seen, but never did see anything about it. I described this in another electronic forum and got a response from someone else who had seen the same thing at approximately the same time from maybe eighty miles away. He and his family were driving in northern Kentucky and saw the fireball. He verified that it was visible for an extended time, because they had pulled off the road and gotten out of their car to watch it. It is the only verification I have ever gotten of this sighting. Since there was no report of a meteor hitting the ground, this had to have been one that entered the atmosphere and gotten hot enough to glow and produce streamers of fire, but eventually passed out of the atmosphere and went on its way. Our football games were almost always on Friday night between September and November. Because I was in the band, it was between the fall of 1953 and 1957, probably 1953, but I can't be sure. I'm sorry that I can't be more precise, but this was about 60 years ago. I've looked for more information on this, but haven't found any.
