I was on safari in Botswana at the time I saw the fireball. We were still out in the Okavango Delta when I saw it so I'm not 100% sure exactly where we were, but I think I got it relatively close on the map. I placed us along a dirt road some distance out from the Kadizora safari camp, which is where we were staying. I think we were anywhere from 15-30 minutes out from the camp (we were driving back toward camp since it was dark out). The fireball came from behind us, I only saw it because I noticed the sky lighting up orange and I whipped my head around in time to see it's last few seconds. It looked like it was heading almost directly toward me. It's path was relatively close to parallel with my direction of view. Also, you might want to give more specific/detailed directions or descriptions for some of the angle-related questions you ask. I'm not sure I understood exactly what you were asking in terms of the angle of the fireball (e.g. did you want its angle in relation to the observer or its angle in relation to the horizon?) The angle I provided for that question was the presumed angle of the fireball in relation to the horizon. It was kind of hard to tell since the fireball looked like it was heading generally toward me.
Also, the answers I gave for some of the questions were my best approximations or guesses. It all happened so quickly it can be hard to remember some of the more specific details. |
