Remarks I had just gone out to the backyard and was looking up to the sky in a north northwesterly direction. I noticed a plane heading that was heading due east. I am 30 miles northeast of DFW airport and can only estimate, but I would think it was about 10-20 miles away at an altitude of 3000-5000 feet. After the plane I turned to the north northeast when a bright light shined above my right shoulder. It was like a huge floodlight in near distance. I turned to it, now facing east southeast, and saw this beautiful array of colors. A blue, orange, green head with a long white trail. The trail was approximately 40 degrees long with a height of approximately 10 degrees. It appeared to be only hundreds of feet above the ground, much lower than the airplane. From the time I turned to see the light, and the end of the event, was about 5 seconds. It lasted long enough that I thought: “I should make a wish”,” my wife isn’t going to see this”, and even, ”where is my camera?” Its northeastern descent was not steep; from my vantage point it appeared to be less than 30 degrees. As the flame extinguished it seemed I could see the object and expected that it may land only miles away. After reading so many other accounts of this same event and from hundreds of miles away, my estimation of this being a thousand feet above could be completely wrong. Nonetheless it was fantastic, and probably a “once in my lifetime event”. I\'ve seen few shooting stars/meteors and all were brief, and tiny in comparison. As it turned out, my wife was indeed seeing the meteor. She was several miles away and happened to see the entire event but she estimates it lasted 8-10 seconds. Wow, what an experience!
