Reports Report 3089ae (Event 3089-2018)

Observer
Name Robert S
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks I would be surprised if anyone else saw it, given the neighborhood, the forest, etc. I've seen two other meteors enter the lower atmosphere in my life, but this was far bigger and brighter than either of those events. It seemed much closer to the ground, and was traveling at what looked like about a 20-degree angle, like an airplane coming in for a landing. I feel very lucky to have seen it.

Remarks At first I was facing away from it. Sky was clear but I saw what seemed to be lightning or headlights flashing brightly (about twice) from behind me onto the trees in front of me. Turned around and saw a large green light streaking through the air near and toward the ground with additional bright white flashing (maybe twice more). No sound. It seemed to be about 300-500 feet away. No flash or any other indication of its hitting the ground, but the area is heavily wooded and the lights were partially hidden by tall trees. The trajectory seemed to be taking it near my mom's property nearby, so I went there to look for any indication of where it landed, but no luck -- though at this time of year, the density of the woods would make any search difficult, especially in almost total darkness. I was hoping to see glowing or burning where it might have landed, or to smell burning in the air, but no.
