I'm not sure if I selected the exact spot on the map, but I was running along Midgehole Road & a friend called, so I stopped to answer the phone. It was just at the point I come out of the wooded area (in the direction from Hebden Bridge) & I was looking out down over the valley whilst talking to my friend in the direction of the National Trust woods/mill site. It was incredibly lucky, because there it came across exactly at the spot where there is a gap in the valley & few trees & no street lights at all, which means I got a brilliant view of it going right the way across the sky without being obscured by trees or landmass. It may be that it appeared brighter to me, because it was across a perfectly dark nightsky (which is a rare thing in the UK - but Midgehole is a tiny place with only street lights on the road & I was at a point without a working light - using a headtorch, which I had turned off to answer the phone). Whilst I don't have a photo (it wouldn't have been possible to take one in the time unless I had been taking a photo anyway), I have photos of that exact view, if that would help to pinpoint the metéor. I didn't know it was a fireball iniitially - I went on FB to talk about it because I'd never seen anything with a green & red tail before - a friend told me what it was & told me about your site. I quite often see small meteor showers where I live in France (part-time) but have never seen one in Hebden. I'd be happy to provide any further details, as I'm not sure of the degrees of entering & exiting, as I don't know how high I was compared to the landmass, etc. |
