Reports Report 4623b (Event 4623-2018)

Observer
Name Dan K
Experience Level 2/5
Remarks At first I thought it was something man-made because of the bright glowing purple color. It was almost like a shooting fireworks rocket, very bright and intense and it seemed very close by, not like a typical "shooting star". But I heard no sound. I wasn't sure initially if it was some sort of man-made space material that had re-entered the atmosphere. Also, the angle of view was hard to assess because it was happening above a nearby hillside. The angle could have been well above 45 degrees relative to the true horizon. Also, my observing experience is limited to looking at planets through a purchased telescope on a few occasions. I don't follow the constellations etc, just enjoy being out with the night sky from time to time. I just happened to take a break for some peaceful time outdoors at this late hour near our local reservoir, unusual (and lucky) for me......

Remarks it reminded me of what happened to the breaking up of the Challenger space craft, in that there were several pieces that seemed to break off from the main part as it finally disappeared
