It wasn\'t moving anywhere near as fast as I\'d expect a meteorite to be falling. (and it wasn\'t so much falling as moving horizontal).
So I am really trying to figure out what else it could have been.

It appeared to be just a few hundred feet away and a few hundred feet above the ground travelling nearly horizontal. I saw the flames flickering. It seemed to be about fist sized.
It was local....on a trajectory to impact somewhere within 1/4 mile of me.

I did see a piece of debris fall from it and head more or less downward. It was on fire, but I believe it burned out quickly, but my eyes stayed on the main piece.
