Terminal flash
Observation Yes
Remarks Moderately overcast sky (fog). Surroundings were illuminated as though by a flash of lightning. I saw 2-3 flashes in quick succession; other person in the car saw it as a single burst of light. No direction noted - had enough time to look around in the hopes of seeing the fireball, but only saw the hospital across the freeway illuminated by the flash. Brightness was easily that of midday.
