Remarks I was driving at the time of this sighting directly ahead of me. From the descent angle it appeared as though it’s trajectory would have meant an impact with the ground to my right, in the direction of Loch Tay. The light extinguished prior to seeing any impact however. I am not sure if this was due to the meteor going out of sight behind trees or hills or if it just burnt out. It appeared to be only a short distance in front of my position. It was dark at the time of the sighting. There was some light cloud cover and it seemed to appear from this cloud to my front left ten o’clock position and disappear at my one o’clock. The meteor appeared to be a distinct object, bright luminous green in colour with similar coloured tail behind it. Although it is difficult to judge distance accurately, it seemed to me to be within 1000 metres in front of me. Close enough to make me duck! The sighting lasted approximately three seconds. I heard no sound but had the radio on in my vehicle at the time. I have observed meteors previously, including one meteorite many years ago that struck the ground a short distance from me in Fife during daylight hours, leaving a large smoke or vapour trail extending into the clouds. I reported this at the time to St.Andrews University Astronomy Department.
