The speed of the light was slower than a shooting star but faster than a terrestrial flying object and I 'sensed' it was probably 20-50 miles away. the vapour trail was immediately visible and fortunately across the moon, so the picture I uploaded showed this trail well illuminated. If it was not a fireball it could be a piece of space debris on it's final return to earth.

Remarks
My photo does not show the fireball but the vapour trail some 2 mins later pictured against the moon. It was about 10 times wider than a jet plane vapour trail
