Remarks Venus is quite bright because of its proximity to earth at this date, so I wish to note that this object's magnitude was slightly less than the magnitude of Venus. Your question about the altitude at which it first appeared is difficult for me to answer because I was not actively scanning the sky but noticed it when it came into my field of vision Approximately overhead). At first I thought it was an airplane and then quickly realized that I would not see a vapor trail at night and that the tail I saw was multicolored.
