I don't know if there was any sound involved because I was traveling in my car when it occured. At the very first second it looked like a very closeby airplane going in for landing, but almost immediatly I understood that it was not.

At first it was just one bright ball, but after 2 or 3 seconds it broke up into several fragments. The smaller fragments seemed to go slower than the main piece.
