Remarks |
During the first half second of seeing this, I thought it was a jet airliner flying a common flight path south of my house. I immediately realized after the first half second that it was a meteor entering the atmosphere. It was the brightest and most remarkable meteor entry I have ever witnessed in person. I saw what appeared to be differing levels of fragmentation and differing levels of brightness along the path I observed. At about halfway through the trajectory of my vantage point, there appeared to be a very light green cast to one of the higher light "flashes". It appeared as if fragments were certainly "trailing" the lead fireball as the 3 or 4 varying levels of flash intensity moved westward...almost as if the fireball was "emitting" sparks. The best analogy I can give is that it appeared fairly similar to the 2nd space shuttle disaster when the shuttle re-entered Earth's atmosphere and burned up. My house is actually about three miles north east of Williamsville, Illinois. After searching the internet today to see if there were other reports of this sighting, I believe my sighting was almost certainly the "St. Louis, Missouri meteor of 2055 hrs. 11/11/19. The trajectory and specific time seems to correlate with what I witnessed. |
