Remarks time of 8:40 pm EST is approximate. We were travelling south on US 31 in a dark, rural area north of Muskegon, MI and south of Ludington, MI with open sky visibility and not other light pollution when my wife and I both at the same time saw a very hard bright white-green light in the sky as we were looking up and east/south east high in the sky beside us; it came from overhead and was travelling roughly parallel to our course. It went extremely fast and burnt out ahead of us as it approached the southern horizon, above the tree tops. At first, I said, there is a really bright shooting star. My wife said, I have never seen one that bright, are you sure it was not an airplane? we agreed it was not because to be that bright and fast relative to our position , a plane would have had to have been just above the treetops, and it was not a plane. we would have heard it crash and seen it blow up. Instead, it simply burned out before it went past the horizon in front of us. There was no sound, but we were in the car with the windows up, driving at highway speed.
