Experience Level 2/5
Remarks Tonight at 7:46 pm I observed a very large object entering Earth’s atmosphere over the Pacific, west of SF South Bay and heading due north. It was completely dark, and the light started out as a dim shooting star, but quickly burst into a massive fireball of intensive white light with a green halo. It was larger and brighter than anything similar I’ve ever seen. The tail seemed to break up intermittently, much like a stream of morse code. It was so bright that it literally lit up our house and garden. A sonic boom was heard about 4 minutes later, giving an estimate of the reentry happening roughly 50 miles away.
