Initially I was facing away from the area I saw it. There was an incredibly bright white flash. I thought it was lightning but on turning round I saw three "red flares" falling from the sky that extinguished before it was to disappear behind the hills to the south of my position. The "flares" lasted maybe three seconds. There was no sound. The sky was completely clear, no cloud cover at all and no wind. Air temperature approximately 3°c.
