I didn't hear a sound but I did feel a sort of wave as I was watching. Also suddenly the sky was full of birds flying very high.

The smoke stayed there for a few minutes. It seemed to stay still whilst the clouds were moving around it - I took a couple of videos of the clouds and the puff of smoke.
