There was no sound, but the initial flash lit up the dark yard like a lighting flash.

Remarks
I thought it was a contrail for a relatively low flying aircraft at first, then the smoke trail diverged into multiple trails that remained visible for a couple more seconds.
Terminal flash
Observation
Yes
Remarks
The yard was illuminated by a bright blue flash that I thought was lightning. When I looked at the sky to see if a storm was approaching, I saw that it was mostly clear, and then spotted the fragments and smoke trail.
Fragmentation

Remarks
First thought it was an aircraft with landing lights on, but the lights spread out into multiple objects which faded in a second or less.
