I have never seen something like this before but its very vivid in my memory having happened less than an hour ago as I was getting my telescope out to look at stars, so all information should be correct except the time may be off by +/- 10 minutes.

The trail was a fire colour orange and it appeared to have grey chunks coming off from the main bright white ball.
