Reports Report 1916bd (Event 1916-2021)

Observer
Name Rebecca K
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks I am so sad that I couldn’t get my camera out fast enough or track it down. I even ran over a curb trying to see it. It was the strangest thing I’ve ever seen in the night sky.

Persistent train
Observation Yes
Duration 2s
Length 20°
Remarks It looked like something as exploding and breaking up into pieces but instead of falling down, the pieces were slightly expanding away from each but following the same path, as if orbiting. It was moving at about the speed of a satellite or airplane rather than the speed of a typical shooting star. I was driving when I spotted it and didn’t have time to get my phone out without taking my eyes off of it. I lost it behind some towering trees, tried to chase it but couldn’t find it around the corner.
Terminal flash
Observation Unknown
Remarks -
Fragmentation
Observation Yes
Remarks When I first saw it I thought it was an explosion way up in the sky, but then it looked like a slow expansion, like a runners all taking off in the same path around a track but some going slightly faster, and the distance between the pieces growing. There was a large piece in front and then about 10 other pieces that looked like they were fragmenting into smaller pieces as I watched. There was a smoky tail that disappeared quickly.
