| Remarks | I am 83 & this was the fatest & brightest streak I've ever observed by far, plus the only one where it's tip broke into pieces. I was driving NE per my car's compass, near the 35 mile marker on I-275. As an old SEL pilot, I estimate this streak was 15 to 20 degrees above the horizon going left to right & declining at about 4 to 5 degrees. The pieces that broke off the tip remained close together for 1/3 second & then all light vanished. I estimate the entire streak lasted about 1 1/2 seconds which is about 3 times as long as most "shooting stars" I recall. I suspect that some material from it probable contacted the ground. |
