There was also a less bright spot going mostly parallel across the sky from south to east with an ark of red in front of it. This was what we were originally looking at when we then saw the meteor.

It looked light a flash of lightning after it went past the horizon. The ball of light got really bright just before it disappeared, then the lightening like flash
