Reports Report 7540rg (Event 7540-2021)

Observer

Experience Level 4/5
Remarks This is the broadest meteor trail I have ever heard of, though the meteor must have been 100's of miles east of our position. We did not confuse this with any of the SpaceX launch parts, planes or bottle rockets. I've seen SpaceX fly past Raleigh before, so I know what to expect. This was a meteor as we had Crew3 well in our sites when the event happened. Quite frankly, the meteor was far more impressive!

Remarks From our observation point this meteor appeared as a broad "V" descending rapidly toward the horizon Green was the predominant color seen, though blue and white were present. My wife says the V was about as broad as from pinky finger to pinky finger at arms length when your thumbs and pinky are stretched out as if to measure something. That is a broader ionized trail then I have ever seen. We were watching the SpaceX Crew 3 launch pass over Raleigh, NC at the time we saw this event. It was bright enough to see colors of houses and things on the ground. I'm guessing the V was created by fragmentation, but she does not report a terminal flash. We did not hear it either, but not surprising as there is an airport near by with planes taking off.
