Reports Report 1185ib (Event 1185-2013)

Observer
Name Jay L
Experience Level 4/5
Remarks It was the most remarkable and brightest meteor/fireball that I have ever seen and the first one that I have observed making sound. Looking at the map you guys already posted, my position was approximately 60-65 miles east of the track of the meteor. It first appeared as a very bright white light and then I saw the green and red colors about 1/2 way through the event. The was no discernible train, but it had some sparks coming off of it. It looked exactly and sounded almost exactly like someone had fired off one of those backyard bottle rockets, which at first I thought had happened. I think I was able to hear the delayed hissing sound as I am in rural area, there was no wind and everything was extremely quiet with no vehicle traffic. I was out looking for the Iridium flare satellite that was due by 2300 at 12 degrees elevation west, so I was pretty much looking exactly due west when it happened about 5 minutes later. From my position, it was moving from left to right at a slight downward angle.
