Experience Level 3/5
Remarks This was one of the most spectacular fireballs I've ever seen. It looked like a firework, but appeared out of empty sky and streaked horizontally for what I'd estimate was at least 23 degrees of arc before vanishing. It appeared in he southern sky, starting in the SE and moving what seemed to be in a straight line, or nearly so (parallel to the horizon) to, the SW where it broke up and vanished, though I lost sight of its final moments behind tree foliage. It was very bright white at its core and I clearly observed green and yellow, though my impression was of multicolored, almost like a rainbow, around the white core. It trailed a long tail of sparks as it went, but the trail did not persist as far as I could see. It lasted long enough to think about grabbing the camera-phone out of my pocket, but I didn't want to miss any of it.

Remarks The fireball had a long trail of sparks behind it as it traveled (trail did not persist), in the end it fragmented into at least 2 pieces, probably more, but I lost sight behind a tree and it vanished before re-emerging. I saw at least 2 fragments but had the sense it was bursting into many fragments before burning up.
