Huge green explosion, we were facing north and looking almost straight up, and saw a sudden green explosion that was very close to, and just to the left of, the North Star, which was about 75 to 80° high at this time. The explosion also left an incredible "Y"-shaped green dusty remainder that was 5° big and fairly bright. This huge green glowing dusty remainder of the explosion stayed in place for a good 7 to 10 minutes, getting slowly fainter, but not moving in position. I have seen five or six fireballs before, but never one that exploded in one spot like this, i.e. not streaking, like it came right toward our own p.o.v., not across the sky. And we have never seen one so large, nor one that left such a big and bright glowing dusty post-explosion remainder. It was the most amazing thing my wife and I have ever seen in decades of viewing the night sky. |
