This was like seeing a shooting star but it was peculiar because it was straight up and down whereas most that I have seen go across the sky horizontally. This was completely vertical.

Remarks
looked like a shooting star when it faded there was a reddish trail that lasted about 2 seconds. It may have been a bit shorter than 10 degrees. It happened very fast and if I didn't happen to look up, I would've missed it.
