This was my first time witnessing something like this that broke apart into streaks, and actually had color to it. It was much brighter and larger than objects I've seen during meteor showers, for example.

I saw the light appear, then it quickly separated into multiple streaks and fanned-out a bit wider than the initial streak as it appeared to break apart.
