Was walking with a friend on the Gunnison Beach near water around 8:30pm 4/28/24. We were seeing if any stars were visible looking away from NYC light pollution, roughly West-Southwest. We both saw it, between 5-10s from nearly directly above disappearing close to the horizon (important: terminal point was obscured by clouds from the approaching squall line which was descending from the north) were not able to see any other stars as the upper level anvil cirrus was moving in and scattered light from urban light pollution. This was brighter than any planets appear to naked eye. Color was bright whitish yellow, perhaps just due to haze in the atmosphere at the time. Definitely appeared to be a relatively large asteroid to me considering no other stars were visible given the haze, twilight and light pollution, and aforementioned approaching shower line. |
