Reports Report 2686f (Event 2686-2024)

Observer
Name Andrew H
Experience Level 4/5
Remarks Initially thought to be a plane as there appeared to be 2 contrails and the observed brightness was consistant with a high flying aircraft. However contrails would merge then reappear (possibly more than 2 at times) and the object was traveling far too fast, although speed appeared to be constant. There was no discernable gap between the object and the contrails. There also was no discernable variation in brightness (until the object faded) or apparent tumbling. Later thought it was possibly a military jet, but the speed still seemed too fast. The object was visible for about 25 seconds then faded from visibility over a 3-4 second period. The sky was clear and there were no clouds, or other atmospheric phenomena, to obscure the object. Waited and scanned, along the last viewed trajectory, for 2-3 minutes but the object did not reappear. Did not see anything resembling an explosion however, due to bright, clear, daylight conditions seeing a distant explosion or fragmentation would have been very difficult.
