Experience Level 5/5
Remarks We were on a stargazing cruise out of Gloucester. I was astronomer/host. Approximately SIXTY witnessed this event aboard our vessel. I just happened to be directing everyone's attention back to Arcturus before it appeared. When I first noticed it, it was around magnitude +1.0 and increasing rapidly. At maximum brilliance, It was much brighter than Venus. Not bright enough to cast noticeable shadows during the event. Near the end it increased in brightness rapidly and produced at least a dozen bright "sparks" of debris. Best fireball I've seen in years...
