I have seen many meteor showers. I have seen fireballs (flashes) and I have seen trails afterwards. I am very aware of the speed that these usually travel. This was slower across the sky, so I assume that it had made it fairly low enough into the atmosphere before it fragmented and blinked out. So I conjecture that fragments have a possible to have made it to the ground. (It was one of the best ones I've ever seen.)
