Remarks I was photographing Comet Tsuchinshan with a 400 MM DO Canon lens, 4" exposure. The object appeared, I swung left and following the object took the shot. Comet in the photo traveling R to L. Artifact to the Left is the result of the long exposure and my following. The shockwave "wings" held until it went out. A bystander said he saw it fragment into non-luminous pieces. I did not. The photo provided is in Camera Neutral setting with no color correction. Only clarity (a contrast setting) and brightness have been enhanced. Camera is a Canon 1d MKIII and was on a tripod.
