Reports Report 8376a (Event 8376-2024)

Observer
Name Elart C
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks December 27, 2024 at approximately 4:00 am PST (34.20204° N, 118.49473° W) I witnessed a meteor low in the horizon on a downward trajectory just above my neighbors roof line. It was basically a fireball or a "shooting star" but moving slower than you would expect and close enough where one could see the outline of the meteor itself which was dark when seen up close in contrast to the trail of fire behind it. I heard nothing out of the ordinary while watching it coast through the sky but I live in Los Angeles next to a private airport and regardless of the time, it is never quiet. I was talking to my brother (who also witnessed the same thing) in the driveway when he mentioned a star up higher in the sky that looked suspicious in shape and color. We both were looking in the same direction (southwest) and in the same area in the sky when the meteor/fireball came in to view directly below just above my neighbors roof line. It was definitely on its way down and visible from where I was standing for approximately 1.5 seconds, travelling much slower than I would have presumed. It momentairly left us in shock; once in a lifetime event to see something like that up close.
