Reports Report 6446fa (Event 6446-2025)

Observer
Name Leslie B
Experience Level 2/5
Remarks Not quite as bright as Venus looks in a dark sky, but this was very noticeable in a clear dusk sky with no other stars yet immediately noticeable. Round, "fuzzy", "warm", glowing ball 2x, maybe 3x at first sighting, as big as Venus. (I looked at planets around 4:00 to 4:45 just this morning.) It was moving at a steady pace, faster than a high jet, seemingly faster than the ISS, but surprisingly slow for an average "shooting star". It seemed to follow a steady, just slightly arcing, westerly track from where first noticed near peak of north side of house next-door (I was on northeast side thus it was moderately high in the southern half of sky from zenith to horizon), "down" past roofline, to behind trees. It had a tapering, fairly long (maybe width of closed hand at arm's length? I didn't have time to do that so guessing), somewhat narrow, tapering, glowing "tail" as it went but this seemed to "fizzle" and fade out at back end and I did not notice a trail (like a jet vapor trail) persisting in the sky after I lost sight of it behind trees. There was no sound during observation nor for a couple minutes after. It was noticed long enough to say "Hey, look at that. Wow. Is it a meteor?" and then it was behind the trees. Best I can do. Hope it helps.
